About Me
My name is Wilbert Derks — therapist, married, and father of four children. For many years I worked as a teacher in secondary education, where I taught with great pleasure. At a certain point in my life, I felt the need to take a different path and to continue developing myself as a person. This need arose during a period of change in my life.
I studied Integrative Psychotherapy at the Dutch Academy for Psychotherapy. I then completed a training programme in couples therapy at the same institution, followed by training as an EMDR Master Practitioner at the Continuing Education Institute for Therapists. In addition, I participate annually in workshops and conferences to further expand my knowledge and experience.
I have personally experienced the power of psychotherapy and discovered that every person possesses remarkable resilience.
As a certified therapist, I support people in my own practice on St Agnetenweg in Nijmegen. My many years of experience with Zen meditation and as a karate teacher form a valuable complement to my therapeutic skills. The practice of Zen meditation gives me the ability to move gently and compassionately with life — and with you. Karate teaches me perseverance and presence. This is how I am able to stay with you as well.
Curiosity, engagement, creativity, patience and open awareness form the foundation from which I support you in your process of change. The (couples) therapy or coaching takes place on the basis of equality, allowing everything within you to be seen and welcomed.
